About the Artist

Ted Remington has been inspired by the “outward” reality of the haunting beauty of our formations and colors of the high desert regions of the Southwest, as well as by native cultures within this vast region. Ted is also inspired and motivated by “Inner Regions” from Meditation or inner reflection. These two Paths have converged into One Journey as a “one pointedness” on paper and canvas. Ted’s primary medium is soft pastel, usually highlighted with some acrylic use, but he also enjoys painting with oil on canvas as well. With oils, Ted’s technique is one in which the primary approach is with the Palette Knife, with far more interest in painting moderately abstract themes. Although Ted has a general interest in Southwest subject matter, he also is interested in eclectic subjects, which reflects his Inner and Outward impressions. His primary style of painting is best defined as a “distilled Realism”, while varying at times between “Surrealistic” impressions and the abstract.

Remington believes that while technique is imperative, more important yet is that an Artist must have something to say, and with passion. Interpretively, Remington’s purpose is to evoke a sense of wonder and to heighten awareness. Ted says, “sometimes I experience a shift from painting what I see to seeing what I’ve painted: that’s always a moment of transcendence for me.”
